App Development / Smart TV & OTT

Smart TV and OTT apps that ship on every living-room screen.

Roku, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, tvOS, Android TV, and Fire TV — built around real content APIs, DRM, and 10-foot UX, not a stretched mobile player.

Roku / Samsung / LGRemote-Friendly UIContent APIsStore Submission

A Smart TV channel is judged in three seconds: how fast it loads, how the remote feels, and whether the stream actually plays. We engineer all three.

Native per platform

BrightScript for Roku, Swift for tvOS, Kotlin for Android TV, HTML5/JS for Tizen and webOS — no cross-platform shortcuts that break certification.

Studio-grade playback

Widevine, FairPlay, and PlayReady integrated against your CDN, plus SSAI/CSAI ad pipelines that pass VAST validation.

Through the review gate

We handle Roku channel certification, Apple TV App Store review, Samsung Seller Office, and LG Content Store submission end-to-end.

Every major TV platform

We build natively on each platform's first-party SDK. That means tighter playback control, faster startup on low-RAM 2017-era TVs, and a better shot at passing certification on the first pass.

Roku

BrightScript with SceneGraph, RAF for ad insertion, and channel store packaging tuned for Roku OS 12+.

Samsung Tizen

HTML5 + JavaScript against the Tizen WAM runtime, AVPlay for DRM-protected streams, Smart Hub deep links.

LG webOS

HTML5 + JavaScript on the webOS TV SDK, Luna Service integration, certified through LG Content Store.

Apple TV (tvOS)

Swift with UIKit or TVMLKit, AVPlayer with FairPlay Streaming, focus engine wired for the Siri Remote.

Android TV / Google TV

Kotlin with Leanback and ExoPlayer, Cast integration, Play Console submission for the TV form factor.

Amazon Fire TV

Android-based build with Amazon IAP, Fire TV overlays, and Appstore packaging for Fire OS 7+.

The whole stack — not just a player

Most TV projects fail at the seams — between the CMS, the DRM license server, the ad decisioning service, and the billing system. We design the integration map up front so playback never hangs on a 401 from a token service. Every layer is instrumented for QoS analytics from day one.

Content APIs

Brightcove, JW Player, Vimeo OTT, Mux, or a custom CMS — we normalize metadata feeds into one client-side schema.

DRM

Widevine for Android/webOS/Tizen, FairPlay for tvOS, PlayReady where required, with proper license proxy and HDCP handling.

10-foot UI

D-pad navigation, focus rings, voice search, and font sizes tuned for couch-distance reading on a 1080p panel.

Search and discovery

Elasticsearch or Algolia backends, voice input via platform SDKs, recommendation rails wired to your CMS taxonomy.

Ad insertion

SSAI with AWS Elemental MediaTailor or Yospace, CSAI via IMA / VAST 4.x, ad tracking aligned with OM SDK.

Paywall and billing

Roku Pay, Apple StoreKit, Google Play Billing, Amazon IAP, or external IAP via Stripe / Recurly with TVOD and SVOD logic.

Getting onto every TV in the living room

Each platform has its own gatekeeping. Roku certification audits channel performance, billing flows, and content rating. Apple TV App Store review enforces tvOS HIG, focus behavior, and StoreKit compliance. Samsung Tizen requires Seller Office onboarding plus a closed-test build against reference devices. LG Content Store needs a signed IPK and webOS TV emulator passes. We run internal QA against the same checklists the reviewers use — closed captions, error-state handling, playback recovery, IAP edge cases — so first-submission rejections become the exception, not the norm.

Who needs a Smart TV app

If your audience watches on a screen larger than a laptop, a dedicated TV channel beats a mobile-cast workflow on retention, session length, and ad inventory. The economics tend to work above roughly 10,000 monthly viewers.

Streaming services

VOD libraries and live linear channels — SVOD, AVOD, TVOD, or hybrid models with entitlement gating.

Broadcasters going OTT

Linear networks extending to connected TV with catch-up, EPG, and simulcast streams.

Education and training

Course catalogs, certification tracks, and corporate learning libraries with progress sync across devices.

Sports, events, niche content

Low-latency live, multi-angle streams, fan-club paywalls, and event-driven push for kickoff and goal moments.

Productized services

Productized starting points

Three fixed-scope tiers to make a Smart TV build predictable. Roku-only MVPs ship in two weeks; full multi-platform production builds with DRM, ads, and store submission ship in ten.

FAQ

Common questions

Which platform should we launch on first?
For US-heavy audiences, Roku usually wins on install base and certification speed. For international or premium-content brands, Apple TV and Android TV are often the smarter first move. We map your audience analytics against device share before recommending.
Do we need separate codebases for each TV platform?
Effectively yes. Tizen and webOS share an HTML5/JS codebase with platform shims. Roku is BrightScript only. tvOS is Swift. Android TV and Fire TV share a Kotlin codebase. Cross-platform frameworks for TV exist but consistently fail certification on memory and input latency.
How long does store certification take?
Roku: 5-10 business days per submission. Apple TV: typically under 48 hours but with strict HIG review. Samsung Tizen: 2-4 weeks including device testing. LG Content Store: 2-3 weeks. We budget one re-submission cycle per platform in every project plan.
Can you integrate our existing CMS and DRM?
Yes. We have shipped against Brightcove, JW Player, Mux, Vimeo OTT, and custom rails, with Widevine, FairPlay, and PlayReady license servers. If your CMS has a documented API, we integrate it natively rather than scraping a web feed.
Do you handle ad monetization?
Yes — SSAI via MediaTailor or Yospace, CSAI via Google IMA, and direct VAST/VMAP integrations. We also wire OM SDK viewability tracking and ad QoS metrics so your sales team has reportable numbers.
